DANGERS IN THE HOME






Here is a list of dangers in the home that could endanger your budgie. This was put together to help make your house, budgie friendly. But most of it is just common sense.
*Danger
BATHROOM: The budgie flies out through an open window or drowns in the toilet bowl.
**How to avoid
Make sure the bathroom door is always closed; let the bird in only when you are present.

*Danger
BOOKSHELVES: The bird hides behind books and cannot escape without your help.
**How to avoid
Make sure that books are pushed flush against the wall; lay a few books flat at intervals.

*Danger
BURNING CANDLES: The bird can be seriously and possibly fataly burned if it flies through the flame.
**How to avoid
Do not light candles when or where the bird flies free.

*Danger
CUPBOARDS AND DRAWERS: The bird is inadvertently closed in and suffocates or starves if left.
**How to avoid
Do not leave airing cupboards and drawers open or even slightly ajar.

*Danger
CONTAINERS FILLED WITH WATER: The bird falls in a bowl/bucket/vase and drowns(soap suds can be mistaken for a solid surface).
**How to avoid
Make sure all containers are covered; dont let the bird out of its cage when you clean

*Danger
DIRECT SUNLIGHT: The bird can have heart failure caused by heatstoke
**How to avoid
Place the cage in shade and ensure there is plenty of water.

*Danger
FLOOR: The bird could get stepped on and badly injured or killed
**How to avoid
Be extremely careful wherever you step and keep the bird where you can see it preferably.

*Danger
ANIMALS: Cats are natural predators and will eat small birds
